GLAM stands for Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums. It refers to a range of initiatives and collaborations between cultural institutions and the Wikimedia movement and its communities worldwide. The aim of these partnerships is to make cultural knowledge freely accessible and to distribute it to the widest possible audience, using Wikimedia platforms.
GLAM activities began in 2010 with a joint project with the British Museum in London and have since expanded globally through partnerships with a wide range of cultural institutions. Israel joined the international initiative in August 2011, following the Wikimania conference held that year in Haifa.
Since then, Wikimedia Israel has collaborated with leading institutions such as the Israel Museum, the National Library of Israel, the Israel State Archives, the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Library at the University of Haifa, the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, and more. The GLAM sector has become a central focus of both the Wikimedia Foundation and local Wikimedia chapters, including Wikimedia Israel, offering a unique opportunity for cultural institutions to increase their visibility, preserve their heritage, and share it with a global audience.
As a nonprofit organization, Wikimedia Israel depends on donations to continue its work. Your support helps ensure the sustainability of Wikipedia—the world’s largest free encyclopedia—train a new generation of contributors, and lead innovative projects that promote reliable, accessible knowledge. Every donation brings us closer to a world where knowledge is free and accessible to all. Your contribution matters!
