Dedicated courses for neurodivergent individuals

The digital world offers a unique space for creation, exploration, and knowledge sharing. Wikipedia is one of the main platforms where anyone can contribute to the world of knowledge, independently and at their own pace.

Our course was developed specifically for autistic individuals, with the understanding that everyone has the ability to contribute to Wikipedia. The program is designed to help each participant seize their unique strengths—curiosity, attention to detail, research abilities, and visual memory—and become meaningful contributors to the free knowledge available on Wikipedia.

The course provides an opportunity to combine practical learning with collaborative work and the development of important skills such as digital literacy, information organization, encyclopedic writing, and collaborative editing.

Who is this course for?

  • Autistic people with good reading and writing skills in Hebrew.
  • Those interested in various fields of knowledge and willing to share knowledge with others.
  • Anyone who wants to learn how to write and edit articles on Wikipedia and be part of a creative community.

What do you learn in the course?

  • Getting to know Wikipedia – How the free encyclopedia works, what the writing guidelines are, and what encyclopedic importance is.
  • Information sources and critical evaluation – How to choose reliable sources, reference them properly, and find quality information.
  • Neutral and objective writing – Tools for clear, balanced, and proper writing according to Wikipedia’s guidelines.
  • Collaborative writing – How to engage with the community, receive feedback, and participate in joint editing.
  • Practical work – Each participant will practice editing an existing article or creating a new one, with the support from volunteers and instructors.

What does the course include?

The course consists of three main components:

  • Asynchronous learning – Individual learning units including texts, instructional videos, and practical exercises to understand Wikipedia editing principles.
  • Online meetings (Zoom) – 6 sessions of 90 minutes each, featuring discussions on key Wikipedia topics, dealing with practical challenges, and group work.
  • Mentoring and personal guidance – Each participant receives personal guidance from experienced volunteers, who assist with writing, editing, and proper conduct in the Wikipedia community.

What makes this course unique?

  • Tailored approach – The course is tailored to the challenges and strengths of autistic people, including focused learning materials, personal feedback, and discussions in a safe and structured setting.
  • Professional partnership – The course is held in collaboration with experts who provide professional guidance and adaptations.
  • Proven success – Based on successful experience training dozens of graduates who have gone on to contribute and edit on Wikipedia.
  • Life skills – Beyond learning Wikipedia writing, participants develop digital skills, information literacy, and communication and collaboration abilities.
