Wikimedia Israel works in collaboration with a wide range of organizations to promote the creation and accessibility of free and reliable knowledge, encourage critical consumption of information, and ensure diverse participation in knowledge creation. We believe that partnerships with educational institutions, cultural and research organizations, social change entities, and the business and government sectors are key to realizing our vision and strengthening the impact of our initiatives.
Partnerships for Knowledge Accessibility
We collaborate with the Hebrew and Arabic educational systems, youth excellence programs, and academic institutions. Projects such as “Students Write Wikipedia” and “Wikipedia in Academia” are clear examples of the success of these partnerships.
We also work with media outlets, NGOs, and public organizations interested in making knowledge accessible in various fields through guided learning and training courses that prepare participants to contribute to Wikipedia.
Additionally, we partner with GLAM institutions (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) to encourage the release of digital content and collections to the public domain, expanding the accessibility of cultural knowledge.
A key partner in this field is the National Library of Israel, with which we run the GLAM-Wiki Course, equipping cultural institutions with the tools to create and edit content on Wikipedia and other free knowledge platforms.
Partnerships to Promote Critical Knowledge Consumption
We cooperate with media organizations, academic institutions, and social organizations to provide tools for developing critical thinking in knowledge consumption and identifying reliable information. As part of this effort, we held the “Fake” Conference in collaboration with Reichman University, aimed at exploring the challenges and opportunities in a world where misinformation has become widespread. The conference included thought-provoking discussions with researchers, journalists, and digital experts, helping the public better understand how to identify and respond to fake content.
Underrepresented Communities in Wikipedia: Partnerships with Social Organizations
We partner with organizations that represent underrepresented populations, inviting these groups to actively participate in creating knowledge on Wikipedia, while also expanding the available knowledge about them.
One of our most unique collaborations is with the Re’im Program (via the Community Centers Association), which led to the development of a specialized Wikipedia editing course for neurodivergent individuals. This course empowers participants, provides valuable skills in the realm of free knowledge, and helps increase representation of this community in the digital space.Wikimedia Israel also collaborates with Artport Tel Aviv, where we co-host an annual edit-a-thon led by women and focused on writing articles about women, primarily in the field of the arts. Every year, participants contribute to the effort of closing the gender gap on Wikipedia by expanding underrepresented content about women.
Partnerships for Sustainability and Impact
To ensure our organizational sustainability, we build partnerships with philanthropic foundations, the business sector, governmental bodies, and the international Wikimedia movement. These partnerships support long-term financial stability, maintain our relevance, and amplify the impact of our initiatives.
If your organization is interested in joining the important mission of promoting open and accessible knowledge, we’d love to hear from you! Contact us and let’s build the next generation of open knowledge in Israel—together.
