Wikimedia Israel is a nonprofit working in Israel to promote education and knowledge acquisition and to guarantee free access to contents in various fields of knowledge for the benefit of the general public in Israel and worldwide.
Wikimedia Israel’s activities focus on the Wikimedia projects, a set of online projects initiated and maintained by the global Wikimedia Foundation, most notably the Hebrew- and Arabic-language Wikipedias. Wikimedia Israel supports the communities of volunteers affiliated with these projects, recruits new volunteers and cooperates with educational and cultural institutes to make less accessible content and information of special value available to the entire public through the Wikimedia projects and otherwise.

Wikimedia Israel develops and publishes instructional materials in Hebrew, Arabic and English for teachers, students and members of the general public, who wish to join the Wikipedia community and contribute their knowledge to the Wikimedia projects. It makes its best efforts to reach out to all groups and communities that make up the Israeli society, in order to let them all offer their share and perspective of our sum of knowledge.

Wikimedia Israel works in close cooperation with the global Wikimedia Foundation and its other Wikimedia chapters and affiliated groups throughout the world.

All products resulting from Wikimedia Israel’s activities are offered free. It is a common policy of all Wikimedia organizations throughout the world not to charge any fee for accessing or using their contents, including the content of Wikipedia and their other Wikimedia projects, and to avoid any commercial presentations on their websites. Wikimedia Israel’s activities are therefore completely dependant on donations.

Wikimedia Israel is incorporated and registered in Israel as an amuta (the equivalent of a charity, or an NPO) no. 580476430. Donations of Israeli individuals and corporations are tax deductible (according to Article 46 of the local Income Tax Ordinance). Donations from the US can be made through the Wikimedia Foundation, which has a tax-deductible status in the US.

In 2017, Wikimedia Israel received the Midot Seal of Effectiveness, which indicates effective use of resources in seeking the organization’s goals, and a proven significant impact in its field of interest.
